Where Bubble Shot comes from
Taito released Puzzle Bobble (Bust-a-Move in Europe) in 1994, founding the whole genre – with the characters from Bubble Bobble and a cannon at the bottom of the screen. The decisive idea was the falling cluster: hitting what a group hangs from clears far more than three bubbles. Bubble shooters have been among the most played browser games ever since.
How it works
Goal
Clear the field. Once it is empty the next stage begins – more rows, more colours.
Controls
Move the mouse to aim, click to shoot. Left/right arrows work too, space shoots. The bubble bounces off the side walls – banking is often the only way in.
Popping
Three or more matching colours that touch will pop.
Drops
Bubbles left without a connection to the ceiling fall down. They count double – big drops are where the points really come from.
The ceiling advances
Every few shots a new row appears on top. If a bubble reaches the red line, it is over.
Three tips for better results
- 1Bank off the wall: the angle reaches gaps that are closed head-on.
- 2Aim at what a big cluster hangs from – one shot can drop twenty bubbles.
- 3Clear the edges so the ceiling brings less down with it when it drops.
