Where Road Hopper comes from
Crossy Road by Hipster Whale brought the old Frogger idea back in 2014 – in blocky style and without an end. The title plays on the oldest joke there is: why did the chicken cross the road? What was new is that the view keeps pushing forward: standing still is no longer an option, only a slower way to lose.
How it works
Goal
Get as far forward as you can. Every new row is a point, every coin five.
Controls
Arrow keys or W A S D. Each press is one hop. You may go back – but only as far as the view allows.
The route
Grass – safe, but trees and rocks block the way. Road – cars, buses and trucks. One hit and it is over. River – logs only! They carry you along; drift off screen and you go down with them. Rails – the signal blinks, then the train comes. Do not be standing there.
The eagle
The view creeps forward and speeds up over time. Fall off the back and the eagle takes you.
Three tips for better results
- 1Never linger on a lane longer than you must – the view keeps pushing.
- 2Railway tracks warn you first: wait for the train instead of trying to squeeze past.
- 3On water, pick the log with the longest run left, not the nearest one.
