Where Air Hockey comes from
Three engineers at Brunswick Billiards developed the air table in the late 1960s; by 1972 it stood in American arcades and within a few years it was common enough to have its own tournament league from 1973. The trick is a surface with thousands of fine holes: the escaping air lifts the puck until almost no friction remains.

Goal
Seven goals win the match.
Controls
The mallet follows your mouse. Your half is the bottom one – you cannot cross the centre line.
The shot
The puck does not simply bounce: your mallet's own speed goes into the shot. Push the mallet forward at the moment of contact and it flies. A resting mallet takes pace off.
Rails
Sides and back wall bounce the puck. Playing off the rails is often the only way past a well-positioned opponent.
After a goal
The puck is placed in the middle, always in favour of whoever conceded.
Three tips for better results
- 1Hold a position just in front of your goal instead of chasing the puck.
- 2Bank shots are harder to save than straight ones – play off one rail.
- 3A short push at the last moment adds more speed than a long run-up.

Is Air Hockey free to play?
Yes. Air Hockey runs straight in your browser, costs nothing and needs no installation. There is no paywall – the chips in the game are play money and cannot be bought. The site is funded by advertising, which appears only if you agree to it.
Do I need an account to play Air Hockey?
No. The home page offers “play now without an account” – that starts you straight away and your progress stays in this browser. An account is only worth it if you want the same progress on several devices; name and PIN are enough, and we never ask for an email address. A guest profile can be turned into an account at any time without losing anything.
