Where Last Card comes from
Merle Robbins, a barber from Reading, Ohio, invented Uno in 1971 after arguing with his son about the rules of Crazy Eights. The family printed the first 5,000 sets themselves and sold them in their own salon. Mattel bought the brand in 1992, and Uno is now one of the best-selling card games in the world. Calling Uno on your second-to-last card has been part of it from day one.
How it works
Play a card matching the top one in colour or number. If nothing fits, draw one.
Skip – the next player misses a turn. Reverse – play turns around (acts as a skip with two players). +2 – the next player draws two; they can counter with their own +2. Wild – you pick the colour. +4 – pick the colour and the next player draws four.
With two cards left, press UNO before playing your second-to-last card – otherwise you draw two penalty cards.
Three tips for better results
- 1Hold a wild card back until you really need it – it is your emergency brake.
- 2Track which colour the table is running out of; that is where your draw cards hurt most.
- 3Against an opponent with one card, a reverse is often worth more than a skip.

Is Last Card free to play?
Yes. Last Card runs straight in your browser, costs nothing and needs no installation. There is no paywall – the chips in the game are play money and cannot be bought. The site is funded by advertising, which appears only if you agree to it.
Do I need an account to play Last Card?
No. The home page offers “play now without an account” – that starts you straight away and your progress stays in this browser. An account is only worth it if you want the same progress on several devices; name and PIN are enough, and we never ask for an email address. A guest profile can be turned into an account at any time without losing anything.
