Where Rami Cup comes from
Rummikub was invented by the Romanian-Israeli Ephraim Hertzano in the 1940s, because card games were banned in Romania at the time – so he turned rummy into a game with tiles. At first he made the sets in his own backyard and sold them door to door. In 1977 Rummikub became the best-selling game in the United States, and it is sold in more than fifty countries today.
How it works
Goal
Be the first to get rid of all your tiles by forming valid sets and putting them on the table.
Tiles
4 colours (black, red, blue, orange), numbers 1–13, each twice, plus 2 jokers. A joker stands in for any tile.
Valid sets
- Run: same colour, consecutive numbers, at least 3 tiles (e.g. red 4-5-6).
- Group: same number, different colours, 3 or 4 tiles (e.g. 7 black/red/blue).
Opening
Your FIRST meld must be worth at least 30 points. Until then you may not touch anyone else's sets – locked sets carry a padlock.
Your turn
- Click tiles (selected = yellow outline).
- "+ New set" lays the selected tiles down as a new set.
- The green "+" on a set adds them there.
- After opening you may rearrange existing sets too.
- You must play at least one of your own tiles, and every set must be valid (green frame).
- "✔ Done" confirms the turn, "↩ Undo" resets it.
- "Draw" takes a tile from the pool and ends your turn.
End of game
Whoever runs out of tiles first wins. If the pool is empty and nobody can move, the player with the fewest tiles left wins.
Three tips for better results
- 1Hold the joker back until it enables a big rearrangement – as a gap filler it is wasted.
- 2Collect two runs that can grow rather than one perfect one: more connections means more moves.
- 3Scan the table before you move: often a single tile unlocks three new melds.
