Where Block Blast comes from
The genre began in 2014 with 1010!, which inverted the idea of Tetris: the pieces do not fall but are placed freely – and there is no rescue once nothing fits. Its roots go back to the Chinese tangram and to Blokus. Because no clock is running, it is one of the few puzzle games where only your own planning can lose.
How it works
Drag the three shapes onto the grid. A full row or column clears – several at once score much more, and chains score more still.
When none of the three shapes fits anywhere, the game is over.
Three tips for better results
- 1Keep the middle clear and build inwards from the edges – big shapes need contiguous space.
- 2Never clear a row you could clear twice over in two moves.
- 3Before each move, check that the largest of the three shapes will still fit somewhere afterwards.

Is Block Blast free to play?
Yes. Block Blast runs straight in your browser, costs nothing and needs no installation. There is no paywall – the chips in the game are play money and cannot be bought. The site is funded by advertising, which appears only if you agree to it.
Do I need an account to play Block Blast?
No. The home page offers “play now without an account” – that starts you straight away and your progress stays in this browser. An account is only worth it if you want the same progress on several devices; name and PIN are enough, and we never ask for an email address. A guest profile can be turned into an account at any time without losing anything.
