Where Archery comes from
Bows and arrows are documented for around 12,000 years and were the most important ranged weapon until the late Middle Ages – the English longbow decided battles such as Agincourt. Archery organised itself as a sport in the 19th century and has been continuously Olympic since 1972. At 70 metres the ten ring in the centre measures just twelve centimetres across.
How it works
Goal
Eight arrows for you, eight for your rival – taking turns. Most rings wins. Every two arrows the target moves further away.
Shooting
1. Move the mouse: the sight follows. 2. Hold the mouse button: you draw the bow. The draw bar fills. 3. Release: the arrow is away.
At full draw the arrow is fastest and drops least. Hold full draw too long and you start to shake – you can see it on the sight.
Holding off
The arrow drops on the way. The further the target, the higher you must hold. The expected drop in metres is in the sidebar – the small cross below the sight shows where the arrow would land.
Wind
The flag beside the target shows direction and strength, the sidebar the value in km/h. A crosswind pushes the arrow for the whole flight, so it bites much harder at long range. Hold into it.

From the outside in: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 in the middle.
Three tips for better results
- 1Aim into the wind, not with it – the arrow drifts across the whole distance.
- 2At long range aim higher: the arrow drops more than the eye expects.
- 3Draw fully; a half draw costs range and accuracy at the same time.

Is Archery free to play?
Yes. Archery runs straight in your browser, costs nothing and needs no installation. There are no ads and no paywall – the chips in the game are play money and cannot be bought.
Do I need an account to play Archery?
You create a profile with a name and a PIN, but no account is created on anybody else's server. Scores, chips, achievements and unlocked motifs live only in your own browser.
